BSc and MSc Thesis Advising

The database systems research group offers several interesting topics for a bachelor or master thesis. These topics focus primarily on aspects related to the management and analysis of scientific data. Specific topics include

  • managing and mining moving object trajectories, with a focus on predictive queries and trajectory similarity search
  • moving objects in higher-dimensional spaces (modeling and querying, including index structures)
  • development of sensor data processing architectures based on standards of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC)
  • real-time processing and analysis of sensor data streams (using Sensor Web Enablement concepts and techniques)
  • data integration in the Geosciences, with a focus on integrating vector and object-based data from distributed and heterogeneous data sources
  • semantic integrity constraints and constraint maintenance for geospatial data
  • access control models and mechanisms for spatial and spatio-temporal data

In the area of Information Retrieval, we offer thesis topics focusing on

  • temporal information retrieval aspects
  • extraction of location and time information from documents
  • development of graphical user interfaces in support of temporal document exploration tasks

Students interested in working on a thesis with members of the research group should contact Prof. Dr. Michael Gertz.
